The Brazilian Tiago Brito regained for his country the title of Snipe Youth World Champion, in the competition that concluded yesterday Sunday in Coruñese waters. The Portuguese Mafalda Pires of Lima did not manage to unbank its great rival, but at least it was able to secure a subchampionship that at times was at risk. The podium was closed by the regatist that cedes the crown, the Spanish Antonio López.

The day began with conditions very similar to those of the previous day. Winds around 15 knots welcomed the regatists. And Tiago Brito was not willing to give in to the leadership, something he had so hard to get. In the first Sunday manga, he entered second behind his compatriot Leonardo Lobardi (regatist already without options to conquer the title), as he allowed him to strengthen the leadership.

The third square was also taken by the Brazilian Felipe Rondina, completing a partial triplet for the South American country. And fourth was the pattern that yesterday ceded the crown, the cartagJanuary Antonio López, ahead of another Brazilian, Daniel Platt. And then the great rivals of Brito, the Portuguese Mafalda Pires of Lima (sixth) and the canary Alejandro Bethencourt (seventh). The leader was a little closer to the title.
From there, Tiago Brito did not want to take unnecessary risks. Controlling the luse and the Spanish became your priority. But Bethencourt didn't give up and in the next race, the eighth of the global race, he won the victory, the third in the championship. The island raided the subchampionship, unlocking a Pires de Lima that fought until the end. Brito concluded sixth, putting even more distance from the Portuguese, eighth. In the absence of a race, I already had the victory in my hand.

A seventh place on the last sleeve was enough for the Brazilian to win the title. The victory was for Leonardo Lombardi, and with his second post Mafalda Pires of Lima he secured the subchampionship. Third of the test and the general ended Antonio López, who at least does not get off the podium with respect to the 2015 World Cup. The great loser was Alejandro Bethencourt. He did not have a good sleeve (quarter), dropping two posts in the general and finishing fourth.
And of the Coruñese competitors, the most outstanding was the tenth final place of Roberto Bermudez de Castro. The final classification was as follows:

1. Tiago Brito - Antonio Rosa (Brazil) 22 points
2. Mafalda Pires de Lima - Tomás Pires de Lima (Portugal) 26
3. Antonio Ópez- Gregorio Belmonte (Spain) 29
4. Alejandro Bethencourt- Andrés Miguel Morales (Spain) 30
5. Daniel Platt-Michel Cheffer (Brazil) 30
6. Felipe Rondina-Joao Pedro Barreto (Brazil) 32
7. Nick Pellicano - Joa Pedro Moreira (Brazil) 40
8. Leonardo Lombardi- Fabio Kohler (Brazil) 49
9. Ozora Iwatsuki-Kosuke Miyake (Japan) 51
10. Roberto Bermudez de Castro-Jorge Tábara (Spain) 56

05 / 08 / 2017: Brazil, Portugal and Spain to lead the European Youth Snipe

Intense day of race in the third and penultimate day of the Snipe World Youth Championship, which organizes the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña. The sudden change in wind conditions and discards have led to a change in leadership. The Brazilian Tiago Brito took the first place to the Portuguese Mafalda Pires of Lima, while the Spanish Alejandro Bethencourt, with two partial victories, is third in the general classification. The Galician representatives again highlighted Roberto Bermudez de Castro. The Coruñés finished third in the last test of the day.

In the first manga of the day the Brazilian Tiago Brito began his regular recital, taking air and returning to the podium, something he did not do since the first race of the competition. His compatriots Nick Pellicano and Daniel Platt were fourth and fifth respectively. And just after, also doing a good journey, the Coruñés Roberto Bermudez de Castro, sixth. The Portuguese Mafalda Pires of Lima saved the lead. He could only get the eighth position... but his main rival until that moment, the Brazilian Felipe Rondina, ended even further back, tenth.

In the second delivery the script was similar to that of the first of the day: Bethencourt first, Lopez second, Brito third... and Pires fourth of Lima... Rondina still had no day and this time ended twelfth. Roberto Bermudez de Castro did better, eighth... it was time to apply the discards, thus the general classification varied substantially. And it was tight. Pires de Lima had 11 points, by 12 of Tiago Brito and 13 of Bethencourt.

At the fourth and fourteenth minutes of the afternoon the third and last race of the day began. This time things didn't go so well for the Spaniards. The American Jensen McTighe was imposed and, thanks to his second position, Tiago Brito took the lead in the general classification, as Mafalda Pires of Lima finished seventh and Alejandro Bethencourt ninth. Third in this last manga of the day was the Coruñés Roberto Bermudez de Castro, finishing fourth the Brazilian Felipe Rondina. For the closing day of Sunday, a maximum of three races are planned, starting at one in the afternoon. So is the general in the absence of the closing day:

1. Tiago Brito-Antonio Rosa (Brazil) 1 + 5 + (7) + 3 + 3 + 2 = 14
2. Mafalda Pires de Lima- Tomás Pires de Lima (Portugal) 3 + 1 + 3 + (8) + 4 + 7 = 18
3. Alejandro Bethencourt-Andrés Miguel Morales (Spain) (12) + 6 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 9 = 22
4. Felipe Rondina-Joao Pedro Barreto (Brazil) 4 + 2 + 2 + 10 + (12) + 4 = 22
5. Daniel Platt-Michel Cheffer (Brazil) 2 + 3 + 8 + 5 + 7 + (24-DNF) = 25
6. Antonio Ópez-Gregorio Belmonte (Spain) 7 + 8 + 10 + 2 + 2 + (12) = 29
7. Nick Pellicano-Joao Pedro Moreira (Brazil) (13) + 4 + 9 + 4 + 10 + 6 = 33
8. Ozora Iwatsuki-Kosuye Miyake (Japan) (15) + 7 + 1 + 11 + 9 + 8 = 36
9. Roberto Bermudez- Jorge Tábara (Spain) 6 + 19 + 14 + 6 + 8 + 3 = 37
10. Jensen McTigue-Andre Guaranga (United States) 5 + 9 + (24-DSQ) + 19 + 11 + 1 = 45

04 / 08 / 2017: Portugal, Brazil and USA dominate the Youth World of Snipe de La Coruña

Complicated second day of the World Youth Snipe Championship held in the waters of La Coruña, which is organizing the Royal Nautical Club. The unstable wind, accompanied by rain and fog, made navigation difficult, so only one race, the third to date, could be completed. Under these conditions, the Japanese Ozora Iwatsuki and Kosuke Miyake were the ones who best adapted to the weather contrariety... the Asians, who on Thursday were doing a fifteenth and a seventh, were imposing themselves today.

The next in the classification was the Brazilian Felipe Rodina. The current subchampion of the world does not give in and maintains his options of conquering the title. And he also approached the Portuguese Mafalda Pires of Lima, which then entered and which with this third position holds the lead. Similarly, the American Jensen McTighe, fourth in this third trial, ahead of the Peruvian Fernando Correa, is still very regular, which could have been a joy after a 20th and seventeenth day. And in the sixth square the canary Alejandro Bethencourt, which is now also the best Spanish in the competition.

In the general classification, Felipe Rodina (eight points) is consolidated as the main alternative to a Mafalda Pires de Lima (seven) who is resisting as a champion. So, the third, Tiago Brito (who started the World Cup very well but has not been able to be regular), already adds 14 points, the same as Daniel Platt, fourth. The best Spanish is now Alejandro Bethencourt, seventh with 24, followed by the world champion of the category, his compatriot Antonio López, with 26. For Saturday the third day with the beginning of the one-afternoon edge in La Coruña Bay.

03 / 07 / 2017: Mafalda Pires of Lima of Portugal leader of the European of Snipe Juvenil

It began the Snipe World Youth Championship, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña. The Lusitana Mafalda Pires of Lima of the Leixóes Atlantic Sailing Clube is the one that commands in the general, after achieving a third place and a first.

The day began with good wind conditions, five knots that went up to nine. The first race was fast... because the time used in the manga the head group did not reach an hour. They dominated, as in the second manga, the Lujust countries. With Brazil he was already among the favorite teams, so his regatists met the program with a double. Precisely the number one on the list of final entries, Tiago Brito, was the winner, followed by his compatriot Daniel Platt. The third position was conquered by Mafalda Pires of Lima, while fourth ended another Brazilian, the current youth world subchampion, Felipe Rodina. Fifthly, the American Jensen McTighe, while sixth was the first Spanish representative, the Coruñés Roberto Bermudez de Castro, slowly exceeding the world champion of the category, the CartagJanuary Antonio López.

Once the competition resumed, the second test of the day also lasted around an hour. Mafalda Pires showed that it has adapted very well to the race field and to the conditions of the day, getting the first position. And then the bulk of the Brazilian representatives: Felipe Rodina (second), Daniel Platt (third), Nick Pellicano (fourth) and Tiago Brito (fifth). The best Spanish in this manga was Alejandro Bethencourt, who recovered from the twelfth one obtained in the first test, after finishing sixth in the second. Antonio López maintained his regularity with an eighth place, while Roberto Bermudez ended nineteenth.

In the general classification, Mafalda Pires of Lima adds four points. But the Portuguese one cannot relax, as the Brazilian regatists are not going to give him a truce today. Daniel Platt is second with five points, and with six there are both Tiago Brito and Felipe Rodina. The best Spanish is Antonio López Montoya, sixth with 15 points. And eighth is Alejandro Bethencourt, with 18. The most fun Friday from 1: 00 in the afternoon.

02 / 08 / 2017: 26 crews start in La Coruña the Youth World of Snipe

The waiting is over for the 26 crews who will fight for the title of the Snipe class youth world champion, which starts in herculine waters under the organization of the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña. Three races are planned for this first day, which can be fundamental when it comes to knowing that tandem can be among the best.

The current world champions, the Cartageneros Antonio López Montoya and Gregorio Belmonte, have two types of pressure, that of competing in their country and that of defending the title. But two years ago in Talamone, Italy, they showed that they are able to withstand both the sea and the rivals. Now they come with more experience, although they know that reconquering the crown will not be an easy task. One of its main rivals is also Spanish... the national champions, the canaries Alejandro Bethencourt and Andrés Miguel Morales are in great shape, and they do not want to waste it.

For the Spanish fleet the main rivals are on the other side of the ocean. Brazil comes with desire. For the nation that has traditionally dominated this class in recent years, both in the youth category and in the absolute, the subchampionship of Felipe Rondina and Luis Felipe Boani knew him little. Now Rondina comes to Coruña with another crew member (Joao Pedro Barreto) but with the same desire to win. Nicholas Pellicano, Daniel Matos, Leonardo Lombardi and Tiago Brito will be the other patterns of the Brazilian duos. But this World Cup doesn't seem to be going to be a hand-to-hand between Spain and Brazil. The United States and Italy will also play their games as well as the other participating countries: Japan, Peru and Portugal.

01 / 08 / 2017: The Young World of Snipe a luxury appetizer for the Senior World begins in La Coruña

The Snipe World Youth Championship, which will take place in the waters of the Coruñesa Bay, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña, runs on Wednesday. One of the Spanish crews that participated in this competition, that formed by Antonio de Ugarte (pattern) and Manuel Fernández Taboada (crew), yesterday waited for their turn at the Parrote's explanade to pass the corresponding measurements. The illusion of the sailors is great, as they face the first World Cup of their still short sports career.

En la bellísima Ciudad de La Coruña ya se comienza a sentir la proximidad del Mundial de Snipe

In the beautiful city of La Coruña, the proximity of the World Cup of Snipe is already beginning to be felt.

"We've already sailed in A Coruña more times, so we know the race field and the conditions that can be," they claim as one of the advantages they will have with regard to much of the rivals. However, do not hesitate to remember that "is a high level championship... especially by Brazilian teams, which are very strong". They also highlight that there are two couples who also aspire to the highest. "It is not that they are unattainable, but they are above the rest of the Spanish duos. They refer to the current champions of the world, Antonio López Montoya and Gregorio Belmonte, and those of Spain, Alejandro Bethencourt and Andrés Miguel Morales". Of the latter, they provide a technical data to be taken into account during the days of race. "They're very good with strong winds."

Same way. The United States has an important fleet in herculine waters. "But we don't see them as strong as the Brazilians... I think we can fight them," the sailors, who in conclusion have the objective of "end up in the top ten."However, do not forget that they are still young and have much to learn. Another reason not to miss this good opportunity because "in a competition like a World Cup you learn many things."
With about 25 crews on the starting line, Antonio de Ugarte and Manuel Fernández Taboada, they point out that "it is better that there are about twenty ships than not almost fifty, as in the last World Cup. That's right, it's nicer to compete against more rivals."

Yesterday the Youth World was officially beginning, with the first day of measurements. From the early hours of the morning, some of the participants were in line at the Parrote's explanade, where the organization checked the hull, the candles and the rest of the gear. The measurements will continue today, before tomorrow, starting at 12 noon, the first of the three races scheduled for each day begins. In total, the organization has provided a maximum of nine sleeves. In the same way, once the Youth World is over on Sunday, on Monday the 7th will begin that of the Senior-open category, with 85 crews, which will last until Friday 11.
