Carmen Galdós is the new president of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, taking over Manuel Sendagorta in this centenary entity that has been passing since 1898. In addition, it does so in an illustrious year for the Club de Las Arenas, by scheduling during this new season the Spanish Championships of Optimist (30 March to 5 April) and the J80 class (11 to 14 June), as well as the European Championship of this last division in the Vizcaina waters of the Abra (24 to 28 June). Carmen Galdós, who will command a young team on his board, is the 18th member of the Las Arenas Club that has held this position since the merger of the Royal Abra Maritime Club and the Real Sporting Club in 1972. That year, these two clubs in this sailing sport merged and became one of Spain's most notable nautical institutions. The main activity is the practice of this modality, with races during most weekends of the year in the waters of the Abra.

Carmen Galdós, an architect of the profession and mother of four children, has been practicing this sports specialty that he has been passionate about since the child, in which he was formed at the School of Vela José Luis de Ugarte. "It has been more than 30 years since our School has been able to power this sport and we have always been a reference entity with a fascinating past and still a long way for the future. We have a wide calendar in the Regata class, Cruise, J80 and in the light candle with historical tests in the Abra." The new president of the R.C.M.A.-R.S.C., in addition to many titles in local trials, was made in 1999 with her sister Natalia, with the title of the Championship and the Spanish Cup in class 420. She is also a regular participant in the International Women's Sailing Cup of the J80 class, which since 2020 has organized the Club that she now chairs. "It is a competition that allows many women to recover the activity of the candle and others to start in this sport. And it gives the choice to the local regatists to compete against the best at the national and international levels. We are very happy to have already held six editions and wait for the seventh in March of this new year 2026," says the regatist, who has the honour of having won, with her crew, in the inaugural test of this women's championship. A few years ago, he also received the Berdintasuna Indartuz Prize in Getxo to promote the equality of women's sport.
