SailGP: Third Spain in Sydney, and fifth in General Rolex
SailGP: Third Spain in Sydney, and fifth in General Rolex

After being very consistent throughout the weekend, the Spain SailGP Team was unable to beat its rivals at the Grand Prix's final... however the Spanish go up to the fifth square of the championship, four points from the podium
Spain remained very close to its first victory in this 2026 season of the Rolex SailGP Championship. The Gallos, who were the strongest team throughout the weekend, could not round the factory with a win in the decisive career of KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix. In spite of this, the Spain SailGP Team added eight more points in the overall ranking of the championship, climbing to the fifth position.

On a day marked by the little wind, the exits were key when determining the winner of the different sleeves. The organization decided to cut the number of turns to prevent the sleeves from being too long.
2026-02-28: SailGP: Spanish team leader after the first act in Sydney

The Spain SailGP Team wins two of the four sleeves of the day with a couple of outlets to frame, in a very difficult race field... only the local team, Tom Slingsby's Australia, could hold the pace of Spain
The Spaniards are back, or rather, they never left. The incident that deprived us of the first Grand Prix of the season in Perth is almost a mirage. After the excellent third place in Auckland a couple of weeks ago, the Spain SailGP Team started in Sydney in the best possible way: two wins and two meritorious fifths set to finish the first day at the top of the provisional classification of the event. It smells like the end.
On a day marked by light and uneven wind pressures, the team piloted by Diego Botín felt like fish in the water, imposing on all its rivals, including Tom Slingsby's Australia. The locals were the only ones able to withstand the rhythm marked by the Spain SailGP Team, also achieving a couple of wins. His was the first race of the day, in which Botin's were flirting at all times with the third place, although they finally had to settle for a fifth.
From there, ours gave a whole master lesson in navigation and reading of the race field: two framed outputs and two consecutive victories. To remember, especially, the beginning of the third manga of the day, in which the Spanish team opened way in the presalid drawer until reaching the first position, leaving behind, one by one, all its rivals.

The ones from Botín... splendid in the waters of the southern continent
In the fourth and last race of the day, the Spain SailGP Team closed the circle with a magnificent rebound from the ninth to the fifth, to secure the leadership and face tomorrow Sunday day (07: 30 in Sports of Movistar Plus + (Dial 63), and, outside Spanish territory, on the official YouTube channel of SailGP). The Cocks head the table with 32 points, ahead of the aussies (28) and the Swedes (26). Four are the British with 23.
2026-02-2026: Spain wants to fight its second final in the waters of Sydney

The Spain SailGP Team competes this weekend at the KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix in order to continue to add points after its third place in Auckland... without New Zealand or France on the starting line, it will be eleven team who will fight for the Grand Prix, in a very tactical race field
Spain is moving forward with its reconquest plan, and this weekend it is time for Sydney, the home of Tom Slingsby's intractable Australia. 17 major awards have won Wahroonga's since the competition began there in 2019. Since then, the Australians have not gotten out of the drawer in Sydney. But there is a team capable of making the bank jump, that's the Spain SailGP Team.
The Bones face the KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix (at 07.30 on Saturday and Sunday in Sports of Movistar Plus + - dial 63 - and, outside national territory, on the official YouTube channel of SailGP) with a high head, after the third position reached in Auckland. It will be the third and last stop of the Rolex SailGP Championship in ocean waters.
A final in Sydney Harbour is no chimera, especially if it is taken into account that both New Zealand and France - always favorites and very skilled in conditions of a lot of wind - will not be on the starting line after their collision at the last Grand Prix.
