European ORC A2 Altea: durable premiere with problems to go

The championship is part of the 40 edition of the 200 Mile A2, with abandoned, damaged and an approach on the starting line
The European Championship ORC A2 started in Altea with a day that will hardly forget the crews. The first short test of the 40 edition of the 200 Mile A2 became a true north-east wind survival test of 20 knots sustained, rachas that rolled the 40 knots and a sea formed of almost two meters of wave.
- In real time, the Line Honours went to Aquarelle 1 Varadero, the Frers 45 of Arturo Meseguer and Toni Puig, which completed the tour in 4 hours, 44 minutes and 41 seconds, clearly dominating in strong wind conditions.
- In Class A, the offset time victory was for Ziving (Grand Soleil 46 S) by Javier Arbona and Bruno García (RCN Valencia), followed by Trabuco (XP-44) by Francisco Martínez and Isidoro Rebollo and Cool (Azuree 46) by Daniel Maestre and Pablo Geras.
- In Class B, the triumph was for Falapooco (Dufour 40 DK) by José Ballester and Andrés Manresa (RCN Torrevieja), who signed a very solid race despite the harsh conditions. The podium was completed by Tagomago III (Dehler 42) and Regulus 1 (J99).
- Class C was the most punished by the wind and the sea. Only seven ships were able to finish out of the 17 registered. The victory was for Mestral Fast (Sun Fast 36) by Jaime Morell and Pedro Siquier (RCN Palma), ahead of Aurora (First 36.7) and Xufin (X-99).
- After this extreme premiere, the fleet now faces the real challenge of the championship: the 200-mile offshore race, with an expected departure from Altea to Ibiza and Formentera before returning to the starting point. A journey that can last between 48 and 60 hours for the slower ships.
