Comandoro Otaegui represented the Carabela la Pinta Club in sister lands of Uruguay (Punta del Este)

As in the best times of the 1960s, the Mount Real Club of Yates visited the prestigious Uruguayan Club of Punta del Este, represented by its Comodoro Otaegui... with much illusion and reasonable pride of the unstoppable trajectory of the Carabela la Pinta Club.

The Club that in its first steps took a name used in Roman times: Erizana Yachting Club, in the widespread belief in those years that Erizana was super old... when what is really more than millennia is the name of Baiona, forged in the Iberian or Celtic civilization.

In the 80's, on the proposal of the great Jesus Valverde Viñas, the name on the one hand was removed from the name "International" and on the other, the Club's grympola was normalized, officially registered in the Register of Patents and Trademarks of Spain... which prevented a daring (whose name I prefer not to remember) who tried to take over the property of Mount Real. Now the descendants of those have endeavoured to make their Club more international than ever... which I think is an excellent incisive.

The Monte Real Club of Yates participated these days in Punta del Este, in a new edition of the ICOYC World Forum, the International Congress of Nautical Clubs organized by the International Council of Yacht Clubs, which brings together the 50 best nautical clubs in the world and brought together representatives of 21 international entities on this occasion.

The Baionese club was represented at the meeting by its comandoro, Ignacio Sánchez Otaegui, who participated in a several-day program that combined work sessions, conferences, social activities and a J70 race organized for the occasion by the Yacht Club Punta del Este.

The Monte Real Club de Yates has been part of the ICOYC since 2021, being one of the few Spanish clubs integrated into this organization. Since its incorporation, the club has participated in different international meetings and has shared experiences related to sustainability, adapted sailing and the development of new sports and social programs (time of the intervention of the Comodoro Otaegui)

During the congress, some of the most relevant issues for the present and future of sailing and management of nautical clubs were addressed, such as the recruitment of sponsorship and new funding channels, the promotion of basic sailing, the training of safety in navigation or the development of programmes for international exchange of athletes between entities of different countries.

The forum, which is held annually at different international headquarters, offers member clubs a meeting space for the exchange of ideas and the generation of synergies, as well as for strengthening collaboration between entities and promoting the development of the sport of sailing at the global level.
